Netflix announces new anime film “The Ribbon Hero” + Visual


The streaming service Netflix announced today that a new anime adaptation of the manga series “Princess Knight” (Japanese: “Ribbon no Kishi”) is currently in the works. We summarize.

Premiering in August 2026

The new anime adaptation of the classic manga is a film called “The Ribbon Hero,” which is expected to premiere on Netflix in August 2026. You can see a first visual below.

The OUTLINE studio is responsible for the production of the evening filler, with Yuuki Igarashi (key animation on “Freezing”) directing and Issei Arakaki (“Extreme Hearts”) contributing the character design.

The original was created by Osamu Tezuka and appeared in three volumes between January 1953 and January 1956. The first anime adaptation comprised 52 episodes, ran on Japanese television from April 1967 to April 1968 and was broadcast in Germany from July 1995 under the title “Choppy and the Princess” on RTL ZWEI.

Princess Saphire grows up like a boy in the Kingdom of Silverland as heir to the throne, although she also secretly has to live the life of a princess.
