Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Ubisoft officially unveils the Remake and it promises to be very heavy

Thirteen years after the release of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Ubisoft finally confirms what everyone was waiting for: a complete remake called Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The game revisits Edward Kenway’s pirate epic from top to bottom, with an engine Anvil new generation, dynamic weather, a 100% solo structure and an overhaul of combat and infiltration. During a detailed presentation, the publisher also made several significant cuts compared to the 2013 title.

After years of rumors and leaks, the project was made official at the beginning of March before being shown at length in a thirty-minute showcase. But behind the next gen veneer, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced made strong choices: disappearance of multiplayer and DLC Freedom Crynew crew quests, completely redesigned modern day and repeated promise by Ubisoft of a “not RPG” game. Enough to intrigue veterans and newcomers alike.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced: a solo remake that cuts to the chase

According to creative director Paul Fu, “with Resynced, we made a clear choice. It is a purely narrative adventure, focused entirely on Edward’s adventures in the Caribbean.” Concretely, the original multiplayer mode disappears, just like the DLC Freedom Crynot included in the remake. Modern sequences exploring the Abstergo offices are also cut, replaced by short passages focusing on Edward’s inner torments and his connection to the Animus.

Jean Guesdon, historical creative of the series, recalls that “the present of 2013 reflected the state of the franchise at the time” and that an update was necessary. The objective is to keep the main plot intact while making it more readable for an audience who has not followed all of the lore of Assassin’s Creed. Good news for purists: the original episode will remain available for those who still want to enjoy the multiplayer or the full period experience.

What’s different for Black Flag fans, controller in hand?

The combat has been rebuilt to adopt a parry and counterattack system close to Miragewith no skill tree or RPG powers. Richard Knight warns that “this is not an RPG, but a character-driven single-player adventure.” Modernized parkour, button to crouch everywhere and less punishing shadowing missions should make exploration smoother.

On the sea side, the Jackdaw gains alternate fire for its cannons and an officer system: Lucy Baldwin, “The Padre” and Tobias “Dead Man” Smith each offer their own scripted quests and naval bonuses. Additional shanties, a cat or monkey mascot near the bar and new scenes by Darby McDevitt complete this next gen varnish.

Release, price, versions: when is Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced coming?

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is expected on July 9, 2026 on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, PC and via cloud gaming. Ubisoft offers a Standard edition at €59.99, a Deluxe at €69.99 and an imposing collector’s edition at €199.99.
