Crunchyroll continues to expand its presence in Asia and plans to launch localized offerings in Taiwan and South Korea later this year. We summarize.
New markets in focus
Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini announced at the APOS conference in Bali that the offering will initially be localized for the Taiwanese market later this summer. The launch in South Korea is scheduled for later this year.
According to the company, targeted investments will be made in content, subtitling, synchronization, marketing and community development.
It was only at the beginning of February 2026 that the streaming service launched a comprehensively localized offering in Thailand, which, in addition to a Thai user interface, also includes numerous anime with subtitles and dubbing.
With Taiwan and South Korea, Crunchyroll is now opening up two more important anime markets in Asia, in which local providers have so far played a major role.
Crunchyroll is one of the largest anime platforms in the world and has been continuously expanding its international expansion since it was taken over by the Sony Group in 2021. In May 2026, the company announced that it had surpassed 21 million paid subscribers.
