Sony has just rolled out one of the most significant updates since the launch of the PS5 Pro. At the heart of this development: PSSR 2.0, an improved version of the artificial intelligence upscaling technology developed for the high-end console. Unlike the standard PS5, the PS5 Pro features this exclusive technology, designed to automatically improve the image of compatible games by increasing sharpness, stability and overall clarity.
PSSR 2.0, what exactly is it?
PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) is an upscaling technology based on artificial intelligence. Its goal is simple: take a lower resolution and reconstruct it into a more detailed, cleaner and more stable image.
PSSR 2.0 improves:
- The sharpness of textures
- Moving image stability
- Flicker management
- Overall quality in 4K
Players speak of a spectacular visual transformation on compatible titles, with some even speaking of a real generational leap. On Reddit, a particularly popular post states:
“PSSR 2.0 is a game changer. I tested it on my entire compatible library and was left speechless several times. »
A PS5 Pro exclusive
The technology is not available on the standard PS5 or Xbox Series X. This creates a notable technical difference between the PS5 Pro and other current consoles. For the first time since its launch, the PS5 Pro appears to be fully exploiting its hardware advantage. Since the update, the PS5 Pro community has displayed an enthusiasm rarely seen since the console’s release.
The real challenge: game support
Despite the enthusiasm, one problem remains: few games take full advantage of PSSR 2.0. The majority of PS5 titles do not yet have specific optimizations for the PS5 Pro. Even among Sony’s recent releases, only certain games have advanced support. This situation is reminiscent of that of the PS4 Pro at its launch: powerful hardware, but under-exploited during its first months. The central question therefore becomes: how many studios will actually integrate PSSR 2.0 into their future productions?
