The computer hardware market is going through a particularly tense period, and Samsung has just added additional pressure. According to several reports relayed by the specialized press, the South Korean giant has increased by more than 100% the contractual price of the DRAM memory that it manufactures for its industrial partners.
Concretely, the price of DDR5 would have increased from around 7 dollars to almost 19.50 dollars per unit. This increase concerns the contract prices applied to large manufacturers like Corsair or G.Skill, who then assemble the RAM modules intended for the general public.
PC assemblers and gamers on the front lines
This decision will not take long to be felt in the final prices. Since fall 2025, DDR5 RAM kits have seen their prices soar, with some models now costing more than four times their pre-shortage price.
PC gamers are particularly affected, as RAM has become an essential component for recent games and modern configurations.
Micron’s withdrawal makes the situation worse
Samsung’s decision comes in a context already weakened by the announcement of Micron’s withdrawal from the consumer market. Production of the Crucial range will end on February 28, 2026, further reducing the available supply.
Micron said it would continue to provide support and warranties for its products after this date.
Possible consequences on consoles and storage
Rising RAM prices could also affect consoles and storage. With Samsung being a key supplier for many devices, the costs could be reflected in final prices as early as 2026.
The massive demand for memory for artificial intelligence and data centers casts doubt on a rapid return to normal.
