PS6 price leaked, and it’s far from bad news for gamers

Sony has not yet formalized the slightest detail about its next console, but a first wave of rumors is starting to outline the contours of the PlayStation 6. At the center of the debate: the launch price, which could be the highest in the history of the brand, without being out of reach.

According to an expert relayed by the Reddit community and the media Action, the PS6 would cost between 150 and 200 dollars more than the current price of the PS5. This would put its price at between £600 and £700 in the UK. An amount that seems high… but which could well turn out to be more reasonable than feared.

An expected price increase, but not crazy

The video game market is constantly evolving, and prices follow the trend. The PlayStation 5 itself has seen several increases since its launch. In 2020 the digital version cost £359.99 compared to £429.99 today. The reader version has gone from £449.99 to £479.99.

With the release of the PS5 Pro, Sony has even reached a new milestone: £699.99 for a console without a disc drive, to which is added almost £95 for two essential accessories. We are therefore close to £795 for a complete configuration.

In this context, a PS6 around £650 or £700 wouldn’t be that surprising.

A price positioning close to the PS5 Pro?

Sony’s pricing strategy seems to be evolving towards a more premium positioning, in line with the current offering. If the PS6 releases in a more powerful configuration, with a disc drive included and standard accessories in the box, it could ultimately cost less than an equivalent PS5 Pro purchased today.

The price difference with the standard PS5 would therefore be logical, but not excessive. Sony could even play the optimization card by automatically integrating certain elements which until now were the subject of supplements, such as vertical support or extended storage.

Reminder: the PS6 is not expected before 2027

For now, the PS6 remains a ghost console. No official announcement, no visual, not even a technical sheet. According to the most credible industrial sources, it would not arrive before the end of 2027, or even the beginning of 2028. This gives Sony time to refine its offer, but also to anticipate tensions in the market or technological developments.

Between inflation, rising component costs and new performance standards, a price increase seems inevitable. But to some extent, it could remain contained.

A rumor to take with a step back

It is essential to remember that this is only a rumor at this time, and not an official leak. The current estimate does not specify the exact configuration of the console (with or without player), nor the accessories included. The final price could therefore vary significantly depending on the regions and the packs offered.

But one thing is certain: Sony will have a lot of work to do to convince players that this increase is justified. And to prevent the launch of the PS6 from being hampered by its price, the company will undoubtedly have to make strategic choices.
