While the Christmas holidays are in full swing, Sony is increasing its attention to PS5 players. In recent weeks, several new features have been discreetly added to the console interface, including free animated themes with a winter atmosphereas well as bonus benefits for PS Plus subscribers. All of this, accessible at no extra cost, and just in time to brighten up evenings by the fire.
According to information relayed by Push Square and Gamingbible, these seasonal gifts are part of Sony’s clear desire to offer a personalized and immersive experiencefar beyond games.
Two new animated themes to enhance your PS5 interface
In the official PlayStation wallpapers section, a new animated home screen was deployed. It represents a snowy landscape with the iconic PlayStation logo in the center, immersed in a soothing winter atmosphere.
This theme is added to a previous one, just as warm, inspired by a crackling fireplace. “This is the second time in a few weeks that they’ve added a fun, seasonal theme,” reports Gamingbible.
Users can thus transform their PS5 interface into a festive decor, with immersive sound effects like the creaking of wood or a slight rumble in the background. An option that is not limited to aesthetics: Sony is also testing their automatic activation when the console remains inactive, in order to reduce energy consumption.
Bonus movie credits for PS Plus subscribers
Beyond visual customization, Sony also offers a welcome bonus for those who subscribe to a PS Plus subscription for 12 months. They can indeed benefit from credits to use on the Sony Pictures appideal for enjoying Christmas films with the family. “Those who sign up for a 12-month subscription can also enjoy some additional benefits at the moment, including movie credits to spend on the Sony Pictures app,” says James Lynch. This type of partnership shows how Sony is trying to unify its entertainment services to retain its users in the PlayStation ecosystem.
An enthusiastic community and still high expectations
Player feedback is generally positive, especially in Push Square publications. “Just in time for Christmas, perfect! But I wish we could have real wallpapers without all the mess that gets in the way like it is currently,” notes one user.
These reactions demonstrate a real enthusiasmbut also a persistent expectation around greater freedom of customization on PS5, particularly with regard to static wallpapers or a possible return of the dynamic themes of the PS4.
Sony could have more surprises in store between now and the New Year
According to the last lines of the Gamingbible post, Sony has not said its last word for these holidays. “So keep an eye on the various cosmetic menus to see if there is any new content added before the big day on December 25, as well as for the New Year.”
If you are already a PS Plus subscriber or simply curious to decorate your console for the holidays, now is the time to take a look at the customization menus of your PS5.
