PS5 Pro: PSSR 2 update arrives and two award-winning games are already compatible

The PlayStation 5 Pro continues to expand its graphics capabilities. Two major titles have just been officially confirmed as compatible with PSSR 2 technology, a technical development expected by many players.

Control Ultimate Edition and Alan Wake 2, developed by Remedy Entertainment, will soon benefit from this new image enhancement technology. The PSSR 2 update, which is due to arrive in March 2026, promises visible gains in fluidity and visual stability on Sony’s most powerful console.

PS5 Pro and PSSR 2, a new step for graphics performance

PSSR technology, for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, constitutes one of the central innovations of the PS5 Pro. It helps improve image quality with an advanced upscaling system, designed to display sharper resolution while maintaining a high frame rate.

With the PSSR 2 release, Sony introduces a reworked approach to visual processing. The goal is to improve image stability in complex scenes while reducing graphical artifacts.

Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that its two most awarded games will directly benefit from these technical improvements. Control Ultimate Edition and Alan Wake 2 should therefore display better fluidity of movements and more stable image quality, especially during the busiest action sequences. For PS5 Pro players, this means a more consistent visual experience, especially on 4K displays.

Control Ultimate Edition and Alan Wake 2 among the first compatible games

The compatibility of Control Ultimate Edition and Alan Wake 2 with PSSR 2 represents an important milestone for Remedy Entertainment. Both titles are renowned for their detailed environments, complex lighting effects, and visually demanding scenes.

PSSR 2 technology will therefore make it possible to further exploit the power of the PS5 Pro. The improvements should be particularly visible in dark environments and volumetric effects, characteristic of the studio’s productions. The release of this update also comes as other studios begin to adopt the technology. The first game announced with native PSSR 2 support is Resident Evil Requiem, recently released by Capcom.

In a press release, Masaru Ijuin, producer at Capcom, explained that this technology made it possible to go further in visual rendering. It states: “elevating its expressiveness by successfully addressing these details and texture features, traditionally difficult to improve due to their complexity. We hope you will experience this unprecedented level of horror and visual fidelity, as well as the new gaming sensations it offers.”

How to activate PSSR 2 on PS5 Pro

Players who have already received the update will be able to activate the feature directly in the console’s system settings. The option is found in the screen and video menu. A dedicated video output section allows you to enable or disable enhanced PSSR quality.

This setup gives users the option to choose between multiple visual modes depending on their preferences. Some players favor the maximum resolution, while others prefer to maintain a higher frame rate. With the arrival of PSSR 2, Sony seeks to offer a more balanced compromise between these two approaches.

The gradual addition of new compatible games should also strengthen the interest in this technology. Several studios are already working on updates intended to exploit the capabilities of the PS5 Pro.

Gradual adoption by studios

PSSR 2 integration isn’t just about new games. Developers can also adapt their existing titles to take advantage of this technology. This strategy allows Sony to quickly enrich the catalog of games optimized for the PS5 Pro. Already popular titles thus benefit from technical improvements without requiring a complete new version.

With Alan Wake 2 and Control Ultimate Edition, Remedy Entertainment shows that third-party studios intend to exploit these new possibilities. As the months go by, the list of games compatible with PSSR 2 should continue to grow, strengthening the appeal of the PS5 Pro for gamers looking for the best graphics performance on console.
