PS Plus: the first game of December revealed, it’s one of the biggest bangers of the decade

It’s now almost official: SoulCalibur 3 will join the PlayStation Plus library in December 2025. If Sony has not yet published a formal announcement, everything indicates that this cult fighting game from the PS2 era will make its comeback via the Classics catalog of the subscription service.

During September’s State of Play, Sony revealed SoulCalibur 3 and Tomb Raider: Anniversary as two retro titles expected before the end of the year. With the release of Tomb Raider having been confirmed for November 25, all eyes are now turning to December for the arrival of the second game.

An expected release on PS5 and PS4… but reserved for some subscribers

SoulCalibur 3 will not be part of the free games of the month for all PlayStation Plus subscribers. As specified in the ComicBook.com article, “SoulCalibur 3 will not be part of the free games for the month of December, but will join the PS Plus Classics selection.”

This means that the game will only be accessible to subscription holders PlayStation Plus Premiumwhich provides access to a selection of retro games from previous consoles. For players who do not wish to subscribe to this subscription level, the game will also be available for sale as a download on the PlayStation Store.

The likely release date, if Sony sticks to its usual schedule, would be December 16a few days after an announcement expected on December 10.

An iconic return for fighting game fans

Originally released in 2005 on PS2, SoulCalibur 3 made an impression with its refined combat system, its ambitious Story mode and the richness of its single-player content. This will be the first time that this title has joined the PS Plus Classics program, an addition that will delight the nostalgic as well as the curious.

While waiting for the official announcement of the other PS Plus games for December, scheduled for November 26, players subscribed to the Premium plan can already prepare to take out their controller for some legendary duels. And if nostalgia isn’t enough, Sony has already proven with Tomb Raider: Anniversary that it knows how to take care of its classics.
