PlayStation Plus offers free movie bonus valid until January

Sony has just revealed a new promotional offer for its PlayStation Plus subscribers: free credits to use on the Sony Pictures Core application. The objective? Encourage players to sign up for an annual subscription rather than a monthly one. An attractive offer, especially for cinema lovers.

In a publication on the official PlayStation blog, the brand details the terms of this new incentive. “Buy a 12-month PlayStation Plus subscription and get movie credits to spend on the Sony Pictures Core app. Immerse yourself in epic blockbusters like Venom: The Last Dance, 28 Years Later, Karate Kid Legends, Anaconda and more! Your next movie marathon starts here!”

An original way to reward loyalty, by adding non-game content to extended subscriptions. However, as is often the case, several conditions apply.

An offer limited to certain countries only

Before you rejoice, it’s best to read the fine print. This offer is exclusively reserved for players residing in a specific list of countries: Australia, New Zealand, European Union, United Kingdom, United States, Mexico and Canada. Outside of these territories, the offer simply cannot be activated.

Another important restriction: availability of films varies by region. Even if you are eligible geographically, the catalog of blockbusters may differ from one country to another, in particular for reasons of broadcasting rights.

Sony does not specify the exact amount of credits offered nor the complete list of films concerned, but the message is clear: only 12-month subscriptions trigger access to this reward.

An ever more generous PlayStation Plus

This cinema offer adds to an already busy month of December for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Headlining: Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which tells the story of Basim, already seen in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. A recent title which marks Sony’s desire to offer new products with high added value.

Other games have been added to the catalog: Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Skate Story, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Planet Coaster 2, Cat Quest 3, Lego Horizon Adventures, Paw Patrol: Grand Prix and Paw Patrol World. For Premium subscribers, Soulcalibur III is also included.

Should you go for the annual subscription?

This marketing operation clearly aims to tip the balance in favor of long-term subscriptions, which are more profitable for Sony. By offering movie credits, the brand is targeting an audience beyond just gamers: movie buffs and families could see a double opportunity.

But the geographical barrier remains a significant obstacle. Players located outside of eligible countries simply do not have access to the bonus, even when purchasing an annual subscription. A detail that risks frustrating more than one person.

Despite this, the initiative shows that Sony is exploring new levers to enrich its offering and build loyalty in its community. It remains to be seen whether other regions will be integrated in the coming months.
