A few days ago, the Japanese publisher Kodansha released a lovingly animated short film with stop-motion paper models of its most successful manga titles. We summarize the details below.
Special video
When manga fans hear the name of the successful publishing house Kodansha from Japan, popular works such as “Attack on Titan”, “Akira”, “Ghost in the Shell”, “Initial D”, “Cells at Work!”, “Cardcaptor Sakura”, “Fairy Tail” and numerous other titles quickly come to mind.
It is therefore hardly surprising that these series are now being honored in a nearly two-minute video entitled “LIGHT HOLE”. In it, several characters from the works appear as animated stop-motion paper models, while the legendary “Akira” bike takes center stage and drives through various backdrops.
The term “stop motion” describes a film technique in which stationary objects – in this case paper figures – are photographed frame by frame and moved minimally between shots, so that the rapid playback of these individual images creates the illusion of fluid movement.
But it’s best to take a look at it for yourself and let us know your opinion in the comments. As usual, you can find the short film below these lines.
