Epic Games Store offers a mythological roguelike to PC players, to collect quickly

This December 18, Epic Games Store users can collect for free Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Helan intense and nervous roguelike inspired by Norse mythology. But unlike previous offers on the platform, this express gift is only valid for 24 hours. From December 19 at 5 p.m. (French time), the title will be replaced by another mystery game.

Developed by the Slovak studio Games Farm and published by Grindstone, Jotunnslayer debuted in early access in early 2025 before an official release on September 3. Its presence in the Christmas games offered makes it one of the most recent titles ever offered for free by Epic Games.

Jotunnslayer: a roguelike that focuses on intensity and chaos

This top-down action game immerses the player in increasingly dense enemy hordes, like a Vampire Survivors. The objective: survive as long as possible while accumulating random bonuses called “blessings”, which quickly transform each game into a fireworks display of power and visual chaos.

The artistic direction draws its inspiration from Nordic legends, with omnipresent mythological elements. Although the game is currently only playable solo, the studio has indicated that it is working on a future cooperative mode. However, no precise timetable has been announced.

A flash promotion as part of Epic’s holiday season

The platform thus continues its end-of-year tradition started in 2019: offering a new free game every day, for a limited time. The day before, users were able to get free Hogwarts Legacyone of the biggest hits of 2023.

Until the end of December, each day will reveal a new free title to collect, between independent games and blockbusters. The December 18 offer (initial value: $14.99) is therefore part of a series of gifts eagerly awaited by the PC community.

What other free games to expect in the coming days?

A leak that recently appeared on Chinese social networks had mentioned several major titles to come in this operation, such as Total War: Warhammer, Red Dead Redemption 2 or even Terraria. But the discovery of Jotunnslayer instead of an expected title quickly denied these rumors, now considered not very credible.

Either way, Epic could have some big surprises in store before the end of the year. The next mystery game will be revealed on December 19 at 5 p.m. And for the most curious, titles like One Gun Guy Or Wild Terra 2 are also available for free on Steam until the end of the day.
