The studio Turn 10 Studiosknown for the series Forza Motorsporthas confirmed that production of new content for the game is now on hold after significant layoffs this summer. Released in 2023, the latest opus was presented as an ambitious reboot of the franchise, with the hope of a long cycle of new content.
However, after a mixed reception and a drastic reduction in staff, the studio announced that the Major and regular updates will no longer be part of the future of the game.
In a post on the official blog, the developers say: “With our team now focused on creating the best possible experience with Forza Horizon 6 in 2026, we do not plan to introduce new cars, new tracks, new features or regular bug fixes to Forza Motorsport.”
Online servers maintained, but limited content
Even if active development stops, Turn 10 Studios says it will continue to provide some support for the game. Online servers will remain available, allowing players to continue accessing multiplayer and certain activities.
The studio adds: “However, we will continue to support the game by keeping online servers active, hosting special events and competitions, and reintroducing previously released featured tracks and reward cars monthly, until all content is available for you to enjoy at any time.” This choice, however, puts an end to any ideas of significant expansions or new game systems for Motorsport in the near future.
Turn 10 now a partner of Forza Horizon 6
Turn 10 is not closed, but its role is evolving significantly. The studio is now a development partner for Forza Horizon 6main project led by Playground Games. This next title, which will take place in Japan, is expected for 2026. This strategic shift confirms the importance that Microsoft attaches to the Horizon license, which has been able to conquer a wider audience in recent years.
Reactions around the layoffs and impact on the license
Microsoft has not yet officially announced the layoffs that affected Turn 10 Studios this summer, but former employees have spoken of significant job cuts.
A former team member wrote: “Turn 10 Studios has closed its doors and the team is gone. It’s a very sad day for one of the best racing video games. I loved working there.”
The absence of regular support for Forza Motorsport raises questions among the gaming community, even though the franchise has marked the history of the racing simulation genre since 2005.
