A remake of Tomb Raider 1 planned for 2026
Just after this first announcement, a second revelation surprised fans: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be released in 2026 for the 30th anniversary of the saga. This is not a simple remake, but a free reinterpretation from the original 1996 game. The title, also developed under Unreal Engine 5is entrusted to the studio Flying Wild Hogin partnership with Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics.
The images revealed show a more athletic Lara and a platform-oriented staging. The mythical T-Rex is back, visually transformed, suggesting an ambitious graphic overhaul and a more dynamic reorientation of the adventure. No details on the storyline have yet been revealed, but everything indicates that the plot will move away from the original to offer a new reading of the origins.
Amazon and Crystal Dynamics, a strategic duo
These two projects bear the mark of a strategic partnership: Amazon Game Studios becomes the publisher of the next Tomb Raider games. Christoph Hartmann, vice-president of the group, justified this common vision. “This innovative new chapter with Tomb Raider: Catalyst, and the thoughtful reimagining of the series’ origins with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, perfectly illustrate our commitment to supporting developers with bold creative visions.”
Amazon wants to establish itself sustainably in the premium video game sector. “We are focused on delivering rich, narrative experiences that will appeal to longtime fans and newcomers alike, reinforcing our commitment to high-quality gaming experiences.”
Two games, two visions for the future of Tomb Raider
Catalyst promises to be an epic adventure, rich in narrative choices and mystical tensions. Legacy of Atlantis, for its part, seems to favor visual heritage and action. Two very different, but complementary games, carried by a modernized Lara Croft, between revisited past and reinvented future. 2026 and 2027 are therefore shaping up to be the most intense years for Tomb Raider fans in over a decade.
