Resident Evil Requiem exceeds 6 million sales and becomes the fastest game in the series

The Resident Evil saga continues to prove that it remains one of the most popular video game franchises. The latest episode, Resident Evil Requiem, has just reached an impressive new commercial milestone only a few days after its release. Capcom confirmed in a press release released on March 16 that the game had exceeded 6 million copies sold. This result allows the title to become the fastest launch in the history of the series.

Resident Evil Requiem becomes the fastest-selling game in the saga

According to information provided by Capcom, Resident Evil Requiem had already reached 5 million copies sold during its first five days of marketing. A few days later, the game crossed the threshold of 6 million copies sold worldwide. This sales rate exceeds that of previous episodes of the franchise.

The Resident Evil series has been one of Capcom’s major licenses since its creation in the 1990s. Each new title attracts a large community of players, and Resident Evil Requiem seems to continue this tradition. This commercial performance also comes in a particular context for the franchise, which is preparing to celebrate an important milestone in its history.

Capcom is already preparing the celebrations of 30 years of Resident Evil

“The Resident Evil series will celebrate its 30th anniversary on March 22, 2026. Capcom is preparing various events for the occasion to delight fans, including a collaboration between Universal Studios Japan and Resident Evil Requiem in 2026, as well as orchestral concerts in Japan, the United States and Europe.”

These celebrations show the importance of the franchise for the Japanese publisher. Since its launch in 1996, Resident Evil has established itself as one of the iconic survival horror series. The games in the saga also gave birth to films, animated series and numerous collaborations with other media.

Additional content already planned for Resident Evil Requiem

“Capcom plans to implement several measures, such as continued support and additional content, so that players can enjoy the game for longer.” These additions could include downloadable content or post-launch updates, a strategy now common for major video games. Developers often use this type of content to enrich the story or introduce new challenges after the game’s initial release.

A success also confirmed by the players

Beyond sales, Resident Evil Requiem also seems to convince players. On Metacritic, the game has a particularly high user rating. At the time of publishing these figures, it is the second highest user-rated game on the platform, with a rating of 9.4.

Only Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has a slightly higher rating with 9.5. These results show that Resident Evil Requiem is not just a commercial success. The game also benefits from a very favorable reception from the community.
