Fans of the Halo franchise have a very short shooting window. Until March 26, two spin-offs of the series are offered for just $0.80 each on Steam. A spectacular 73% discount, valid for approximately 72 hours, which places these titles among the cheapest Halo games ever offered on the PC platform.
A flash offer reserved for Steam players
The offer concerns Steam versions only. It does not apply to Xbox consoles or older mobile versions. Developed by 343 Industries in collaboration with Vanguard Games, Halo: Spartan Assault is a twin-stick shooter released in 2013. Its sequel, Halo: Spartan Strike, arrived in 2015 with a similar but more accomplished formula. By purchasing both games in a bundle, the price even drops to $1.24 for the whole set.
Two often forgotten episodes of the saga
Unlike the main episodes in first person view, these two games take a top-down perspective. Spartan Assault takes place between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4. Players take on the role of Sarah Palmer and Edward Davis in 25 missions against a splinter faction of the Covenant. Please note: the Steam version does not include Horde mode, which was reserved for consoles.
Spartan Strike, for its part, takes place partly during Halo 2 before taking a leap after Halo 4. It offers 30 missions and was better received by critics. On Metacritic, Spartan Assault has a score of 70, while Spartan Strike climbs to 86.
A deal for fans, but not for everyone
With a campaign estimated between four and five hours for the first opus, these games do not compete with major episodes like Halo Infinite. However, at less than $1, the financial risk is almost zero for the curious or the collectors. Fans of twin-stick shooters will undoubtedly find more ambitious alternatives elsewhere, but for unconditional fans of the Xbox license, it’s difficult to do cheaper. Offer ends March 26.
