Xbox Game Pass: the first two games for January 2026 confirmed, crazy

Microsoft has just confirmed the first two games that will open the year 2026 for subscribers to the Xbox Game Pass. No flashy blockbuster on the program, but a clear desire to diversify the experiences offered from January. With an atmospheric science fiction Metroidvania and a management game anchored in antiquity, the service relies on unique titles to seduce an audience looking for depth.

MIO: Memories In Orbit, developed by Twelve Tenthswill arrive on January 20 on console and PC. Two days later, the management game Nova Romasign Lion Shieldwill be available on PC exclusively, from January 22.

MIO: a Metroidvania in a ruined ark

With MIO: Memories In OrbitGame Pass subscribers will be able to explore a dilapidated spaceship, once a technological flagship, now abandoned and corrupted by hostile machines. The player embodies an android who evolves in interconnected environments, unlocking movement and combat skills throughout the adventure.

The game leans heavily on its ambiance and strong environmental storytelling, providing a contemplative and intense single-player experience. The development team states: “The game emphasizes atmosphere and environmental storytelling, combining fast, fluid movement with thoughtful exploration.”

The demo available on Steam And Xbox suggests a strong artistic direction and nervous gameplay, ideal for fans of demanding but immersive titles.

Nova Roma: build, manage and prosper

Nova Roma offers a completely different experience. Here, no action or permanent tension, but a strategic simulation of the founding of a Roman colony. The player must balance resources, infrastructure and the expectations of the population to grow his city.

Designed for methodical players, this game values long-term decisions. Unlike current blockbusters, Nova Roma takes its time: “Nova Roma is designed for players who like to anticipate. Slower and more thoughtful, this game rewards patience.” Available only on PC, it will especially appeal to fans of classic management games, those who prefer to plan rather than react.

A strategic launch for Microsoft in 2026

This double launch sets the tone for a different strategy for Microsoft. By starting the year without a AAA game, the firm seems to be banking on the richness of the experiences offered rather than on the mass effect.

On the one hand, MIO focuses on a fast-paced, quick-to-consume narrative adventure. On the other, Nova Roma offers slow and controlled progression. Together, these two titles perfectly illustrate the ability of Game Pass to respond to different player profiles, between short sessions and long-term investment.

More additions are expected in the coming weeks. But this first salvo confirms that the Xbox Game Pass intends to maintain its promise: to offer more than a cataloga real diversity of experiences.
