Promotions and special offers have become a habit on Steam. Valve’s video game distribution platform regularly offers significant discounts, but it also happens that certain titles are temporarily free.
This time, PC players can recover for free an adventure game released several years ago and which remains appreciated by fans of the genre. The offer only lasts for one week, however, which means you’ll have to act quickly to take advantage of it.
A cult adventure game free on Steam
The game in question is Deponiaa title developed by German studio Daedalic Entertainment. Initially released in 2012, this point-and-click adventure game quickly stood out thanks to its particular humor and its original universe. In Deponia, players take on the role of Rufus, a character living in a gigantic landfill and dreaming of escaping his miserable life to join a floating city reserved for the rich.
The story begins when Goal, a young woman from this aerial city, accidentally falls into the world of Rufus. The hero then decides to help her return home, while hoping to take advantage of the opportunity to make his own dream come true.
A game series loved by fans
Deponia is actually the first episode in a series of narrative games. After its launch in 2012, the game was followed by Chaos on Deponia And Goodbye Deponia in 2013, before a fourth episode entitled Deponia Doomsday will see the light of day in 2016.
The different titles in the saga tell a linked story, which means that players discovering the first episode today can then continue the adventure with the sequels. The success of the series also allowed the Daedalic Entertainment studio to continue developing other narrative projects in the point-and-click genre.
A game well received by players
Upon its release, Deponia received a generally positive reception from the specialized press. The game notably displays a score of 74 on Metacriticwhich is a solid result for an independent title of this type. On the side of Steam users, the evaluations are also favorable.
After several thousand reviews published on the platform, the game has an approval rate above 75%, which earns it the “rather positive” rating. The lifespan of the game is generally estimated between 8 and 10 hoursdepending on the way of playing and familiarity with adventure games.
An offer available for one week
The free offer offered on Steam is however limited in time. Players have until March 16 to add Deponia to their library without paying. Once the game is retrieved during the promotional period, it remains permanently accessible in the player’s Steam library.
It is also compatible with the Steam Deckwhich allows it to be played on both PC and Valve’s portable console. With the upcoming return of the franchise thanks to a new project entitled Surviving Deponiathis promotion could well be the ideal opportunity to discover the series.
