Science SARU wants to give “Ghost in the Shell” a new identity

With the upcoming anime adaptation of “Ghost in the Shell” the aim is to give the cult franchise a new iconic identity. We summarize.

Big goals for new adaptation

Producer Kohei Sakita explained in an interview with Anime News Network that the new adaptation should respect all previous adaptations, but at the same time become a modern main representation of the franchise.

In this context, he also gave special praise to the anime’s new logo, which not only perfectly captures the identity of “Ghost in the Shell” but can also develop a very high recognition value in the future.

The logo in question, which can be seen on the latest visual, was designed by the renowned illustrator Hajime Sorayama, who is particularly known for his detailed, erotic depictions of female robots.

Focus on manga template

In addition, Sakita emphasized that the new series wanted to be particularly based on the original manga by Masamune Shirow. However, in addition to the action and cyberpunk elements, the philosophical and social themes of the franchise should also be given greater focus.

These include, among other things, questions about identity, consciousness and human life in an increasingly digitalized world.

The new “Ghost in the Shell” series, which is being created at Studio Science SARU under the direction of Toma Kimura, is currently celebrating its premiere on Japanese television on July 7, 2026. Prime Video has already secured exclusive worldwide rights and is showing the new edition in a simulcast.
