Even before the complete list of games of the month is revealed, Sony has decided to shake up habits. In recent days, two games have been discreetly added to the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalog. The first is none other than a revisited classic, brought to the latest generation of consoles. The second, more confidential, intrigues with its unique aesthetic and its strange subject. Two visions of the video game, accessible now for PS5 subscribers.
Red Dead Redemption returns sharpened for the PS5
Rockstar Games took everyone by surprise. While speculation was rife about a next-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2, it is ultimately the first opus which returns to the spotlight. The American publisher has formalized an optimized version of Red Dead Redemption for PS5, Xbox Series and even Nintendo Switch 2. An unexpected but perfectly executed choice.
The PS5 version, available since last week in Sony’s subscription service, offers higher resolution and smooth visual performance, taking advantage of the console’s capabilities. “PS Plus Extra members can already benefit from it, the PS5 version having been available in the catalog since last week.”
For many, this is the ideal opportunity to relive the poignant story of John Marston in optimal technical conditions. Tragic Western with a finely crafted narrative, Red Dead Redemption is regularly cited among the major works of the last video game decade.
A strange and poetic atmosphere with Skate Story
A thousand miles from the lands of the American West, Skate Story offers an introspective and surreal adventure. Imagined by independent developer Sam Eng and published by Devolver Digital, this atypical game propels the player into the shoes of a glass demon, gliding through the underworld on a spectral skateboard. The objective? Cross nine infernal circles populated by strange entities, solve puzzles and interact with phantasmagorical figures.
Available upon release on December 8, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. in PS Plus Extra, it falls into the category of these video game UFOs which stand out for their originality. “Available from December 8, 2025 at 9:00 a.m., Skate Story will enter the PS Plus Extra catalog of the month upon its release.”
Driven by a bold artistic direction, made of bright lights, moving shadows and a disturbing sound design, Skate Story will not please everyone but is already intriguing to lovers of new sensations. “PS Plus Extra members will therefore be able to form an idea for themselves, without waiting.”
Sony is banking on diversity to attract its subscribers
Between the masterful return of a video game monument and the promise of a unique sensory journey, Sony seems to want to cover a wide spectrum of experiences for December. The strategy of early deployment proves clever: it creates an event while leaving room for anticipation of the rest of the line-up, still unknown to this day. If surprises of this caliber multiply, the PS Plus Extra could well become a field of experimentation as well as a nostalgic refuge.
