Pokémon GO: 17 of the rarest Pokémon and how to catch them easily

Completing your Pokédex in Pokémon GO seems simple on paper. In practice, some Pokémon remain out of reach for years. Between regional exclusives, limited events and particularly demanding evolution mechanics, certain creatures are among the most difficult to obtain in the game.

Pokémon GO: regional exclusives almost inaccessible

One of the main obstacles in Pokémon GO remains the geographic limitation. Several species only appear in specific areas of the real world. Comfey, for example, is exclusively available in Hawaii. Hawlucha appears only in Mexico. Tauros is limited to the United States. Klefki remains focused on France.

These Pokémon become particularly rare for players living outside of these areas. Obtaining them then depends on exchanges with other Trainers or one-off world events. These occasions remain infrequent. Without international travel or a traveling friend, some Pokédex entries can remain empty for a long time.

Developments that require patience and endurance

Some Pokémon are rare not because of their appearance, but because of the conditions needed to evolve. Zygarde (Full Form) requires collecting 250 Zygarde Cells. These cells appear at the end of the route during Routes, with a daily limit. Getting enough cells can take several months. Gimmighoul requires 999 Gimmighoul Coins to evolve into Gholdengo. These coins are mainly obtained via golden PokéStops, which are themselves rare outside of events.

Volcarona represents another challenge. You must first hatch Larvesta, whose appearance rate in eggs remains low, then accumulate 400 Larvesta Candies for evolution. Salazzle adds an additional difficulty: only a female Salandit can evolve. However, Salandit only hatches from 12 km eggs and the probability of obtaining a female remains low.

Mythical and legendary Pokémon with limited availability

Mythical Pokémon are among the rarest because they are often linked to special studies limited in time. Keldeo was only available through a special paid study in 2022. Since then, no official return has been confirmed.

Eternatus, meanwhile, only appeared during specific events like certain editions of Pokémon GO Fest. Outside of these periods, it becomes practically inaccessible. Some Lucky Shadow Pokémon are also among the rarest. For a short time, trading allowed these extremely powerful variants to be obtained. This possibility has since been removed.

Discreet appearances that go unnoticed

Not all rare Pokémon are difficult because of world events. Kecleon, for example, does not appear in nature. It hides on PokéStop discs and must be dislodged before being captured. Many players pass by without noticing it.

Lycanroc Twilight Form requires a specific Rockruff capable of evolving into this form. It is impossible to know before capture, which means catching a large number of them. These cases illustrate another form of rarity: that linked to the mechanics itself.
