The Super Mario saga celebrated its 40th anniversary this year, and Nintendo continues to mark the event with a final surprise for users of its console. Available since December 16, 2025, a new collection of exclusive icons is available to Switch Online subscribers. “You can now get a new batch”, but you will have to act quickly: “The current batch is available now, but it will disappear on December 22”.
Among the new visuals offered, we find classic versions of Mario, Peach and Bowser, but also characters from the recent Super Mario Bros. Wonder, like Elephant Mario or Wubba. “The new icons include several characters from the Super Mario franchise, such as Mario, Peach and Bowser.”
How to collect icons before the deadline?
To benefit from these visuals, you must have an active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online (standard plan or additional pack), and use the dedicated application. Go to your console, open the Switch Online app, then navigate to the “Missions & Rewards” section.
Each icon can be exchanged for platinum points, the program’s free virtual currency. “You’ll need an active Nintendo Switch Online membership to get them (whether you have the standard membership or the expansion pack), as well as enough Platinum Points for each one.”
These points can be earned by completing small tasks like launching a game, visiting the Nintendo eShop, or interacting with certain Nintendo ecosystem services. The process is therefore quick, free and accessible to all player profiles.
Mario Kart 8 icons and customizable backgrounds
In addition to the visuals from Super Mario Bros. Wonder, this end-of-year salvo also includes content inspired by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Fans can personalize their profile with images of Baby Luigi, Mario or Peach in their karts. To round it all off, Nintendo also offers matching frames and backgrounds.
Some of them feature iconic elements of Mario Kart circuits, while others rely on the classic colors and patterns of the franchise. A real nod to long-time fans, but also a great way to decorate your profile for the holidays.
Be careful, after December 22, it will be too late
This campaign is part of Nintendo’s overall strategy which encourages players to come back regularly to check the available rewards. Offers change frequently and come back very rarely. In-progress Mario icons will be removed on December 22. No possibility of recovering them after this date.
Nintendo then plans a new batch for the holidaysprobably with a winter or festive theme. But for those who want to pay homage to the mustachioed plumber and his friends, it’s now or never.
