Nintendo has formalized the acquisition of Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, a historic partner having contributed to the development of several major franchises such as Splatoon 3 and New Pokémon Snap. From April 1, 2026, the Japanese firm will buy 80% of the studio’s shares. The remaining 20% will be acquired “once the subsidiary’s operations have stabilized”Nintendo said in its press release.
A past closely linked to Pokémon, Splatoon and even Metroid
This studio, based in Singapore, was the main developer of New Pokémon Snap in 2021, participated in Splatoon 3 in 2022, and even briefly worked on Metroid Prime 4. These experiences make him a key player for future Nintendo projects, particularly on the Switch 2.
A very targeted acquisition strategy at Nintendo
Nintendo remains selective in its acquisitions. Among recent acquisitions: Next Level Games, SRD, Monolith Soft And Dynamo Pictures (became Nintendo Pictures). This strategic choice strengthens Nintendo’s creative and operational control over its flagship franchises.
What does the future hold for Nintendo Studios Singapore?
The studio’s current project remains unknown, but Splatoon: Raiders on Switch 2 could be a clue. This acquisition strengthens Nintendo’s ability to produce internally and innovate for future generations of consoles.
