It was announced today on the “Higurashi no Naku Koro ni” X account that a new anime series for the franchise is currently in the works. You can find a first teaser and a visual below.
Anime by Studio DEEN
The new anime project will again be produced by Studio DEEN after the first three seasons were created there between 2006 and 2009. Studio Passione was responsible for the two later seasons from 2020 and 2021.
The main roles of the Japanese voice cast once again include Souichirou Hoshi (Max in “One Punch Man”) as Keiichi Maebara, Mai Nakahara (Juvia Lockser in “Fairy Tail”) as Rena Ryuuguu and Satsuki Yukino (Mikuri Yatsuse in “My Oni Girl”) as Mion Sonozaki. Yukari Tamura voices Rika Furude again.
It is not yet known whether the new anime is a sequel, a remake or a completely new story to the original visual novel by Ryukishi07. We’ll keep you updated.
AniMoon Publishing released all five “Higurashi” seasons on DVD and Blu-ray. In addition, the streaming services aniverse, Crunchyroll and Joyn offer individual seasons on demand.
