High quality standards: “Freeze” team explains long wait for season 3

Fans of “Freezing: Beyond Journey’s End” will have to wait until October 2027 for the third season – and those responsible have now explained why the sequel is taking more time. We summarize.

High quality standards

At Anime Expo 2026, directors Tomoya Kitagawa and Keiichiro Saito, character designer Keisuke Kojima and producer Yuichiro Fukushi spoke about the third season of the anime adaptation.

They explained that the sequel is still in the early stages of development and that the production team is currently working on the designs, concept art and storyboards. The goal is to significantly increase quality.

According to those responsible, this extremely high quality standard is also a key reason for the longer production time. They want to take the necessary time to meet the fans’ expectations.

Kitagawa illustrated how complex the previous production was with the opening of the second season. More than 1,000 drawings were made for a short section towards the end of the sequence alone.

In terms of content, the third season will continue the “Golden Land” arc of the manga original, which Kitagawa described as both epic and romantic. He also announced the appearance of Macht, the strongest member of the Seven Sages of Destruction.

The first two seasons are already available on Crunchyroll in German and Japanese. The first season is also available on Blu-ray.
