Tales of Destiny, Tales of Rebirth, Tales of Eternia…?
During a video celebrating 30 years of the Tales of series (via Automaton), Yusuke Tomizawa, general producer of the franchise at Bandai Namco Entertainment, spoke about the future of the “Tales Remastered Project”. After thanking the players for three decades of loyalty, he confirmed that the next remasters will focus on much older episodes of the saga, from 2026.
Launched in October 2024, this series of remasters aims to bring old opuses back to current platforms. In fact, Bandai Namco has so far favored titles released in the 2000s and 2010s:
- Tales of Graces f Remastered: released January 2025
- Tales of Xillia Remastered: launching October 2025
- Tales of Berseria Remastered: expected for February 27, 2026
These games correspond respectively to the twelfth, thirteenth and sixteenth main episodes, which explains why some fans were hoping for a more marked return to the origins of the series. This is precisely what Yusuke Tomizawa confirmed, namely that the next remasters will target much older episodes. Without citing specific titleswe understand that games like Tales of Phantasia (first opus of the saga), Tales Destiny 1 & 2 Or Tales of Rebirth could logically benefit from this treatment.
The producer, however, recalled that the chronological order will not necessarily be respected. The choice of games will depend above all on technical criteria, such as the availability of the source code (often lost when it concerns very old games) and the feasibility of the project.. Finally, Tomizawa also reaffirmed that a new main episode of Tales of is well in developmentas mentioned in previous interviews. However, he insisted that game development today takes much longer than before, and called on fans to be patient.
