Night City will reach a new milestone on console. With the next update dedicated to PS5 Pro, Cyberpunk 2077 finally benefits from processing designed for Sony’s boosted hardware, between reinforced ray tracing and increased visual definition.
Scheduled for April 8, 2026, this Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro update does not add any story or quests, but transforms the visual experience on Sony’s mid-generation console. Good news for players: the patch is free for the PS5 version, including via the PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium catalog.
Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro: what does the update change?
The reversal is clear for CD Projekt Red. In November 2024, the studio stated that there would be “no PS5 Pro patch” for Cyberpunk 2077. On March 16, 2026, it finally announced a free technology update, which the co-CEO Michal Nowakowski sums it up like this: “You asked for it, so we’re doing it.”
At the heart of this update is the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR 2.0), an upscaling system that reworks each pixel to aim for a sharper and more stable 4K image. On the light side, Kuba Knapik explains on the PlayStation Blog: “We’ve added BVH8 (8-way Bounding Volume Hierarchy) support for ray tracing lighting, shadows, and reflections, bringing lighting closer to our artistic vision for the game.”
Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro update: which modes to choose?
On PS5 Prothe game now offers three modes. The mode Ray Tracing Pro activates all ray tracing effects and targets 40 fps on compatible screen VRR30 fps otherwise. The mode Ray Tracing classic targets 60 fps, while mode Performance focuses on fluidity with a ceiling of 90 fps in VRR.
If you’re playing solo and have a 4K 120Hz display with VRR, Ray Tracing Pro mode will be the most spectacular. For a balance between finesse and responsiveness, the 60 fps Ray Tracing mode remains ideal, those most sensitive to fluidity can aim for Performance mode.
PS5 Pro Cyberpunk 2077 patch: for whom, and after?
The patch is deployed on April 8, 2026 on the version PS5 of Cyberpunk 2077 and automatically activates improvements on PS5 Pro. If you already own the game or are playing it through PlayStation Plus Extra Or Premiumthe update is free. CD Projekt Red specifies, however, that it “does not add any new playable content”.
The studio also reminds that it has “no plans” for new DLC or extensions, making this patch a real swan song on console. Between PSSR 2.0, ray tracing powered by BVH8 and the three modes dedicated to PS5 Pro, Cyberpunk 2077 stands out as a graphic showcase of the machine and an excellent reason to come back to haunt the streets of Night City.
