Crimson Desert impresses on PS5 Pro with a simple setting to activate

Crimson Desert impresses with its artistic direction, but on PS5 Pro, some players quickly noticed an unexpected problem. Fortunately, the community has already found a simple solution.

Since its launch, Crimson Desert attracts as much for its spectacular open world as for its technical performance. However, on PlayStation 5 Promany players have reported surprisingly low resolution, especially in Performance mode. A shame for a game that seemed tailor-made for Sony’s most powerful machine.

An unexpected resolution problem on PS5 Pro

Several players noticed that the Crimson Desert image appeared blurry or less sharp than expected. Some even felt that the technical previews released before the release did not reflect the actual rendering on their console.

The problem seems particularly visible when the console is configured for 120 Hz output, a setting often activated by default on PS5 Pro. Result: the game is not displayed at its optimal resolution, which directly impacts the visual quality of a title known for its sumptuous landscapes.

The solution found by the players

Fortunately, the community was quick to identify the root of the problem. The simplest manipulation is to access the console’s display settings and deactivate the “120 Hz output” option instead of leaving it in automatic mode. Once this setting is changed, the image immediately becomes sharper. Other players also recommend forcing video output to 2160p rather than keeping the automatic setting. This combination would make it possible to obtain a rendering much more faithful to what had been shown before the launch.

Why is 120 Hz a problem?

Technically, 120Hz allows for a higher frame rate when the game supports it. However, in the case of Crimson Desert, this setting seems to force a compromise on resolution. The game would automatically adapt to this frequency, reducing the definition to maintain stable performance. The result is therefore a smoother image, but visibly less detailed. For such a visually ambitious title, this concession is particularly visible.

Waiting for an official fix

At this point, no official update has yet been deployed to permanently fix the issue. It is likely that the developer will adjust these settings in a future patch. In the meantime, this manual solution remains the best option to fully enjoy the spectacular universe of Crimson Desert on PS5 Pro. For a game that relies so much on its aesthetics, a few adjustments are ultimately enough to completely transform the experience.
