Bastei Lübbe AG recently announced that it would take over all shares in papertoons GmbH. We summarize the details.
Complete takeover
As of January 1, 2026, the webtoon and manhwa publisher papertoons will be completely transferred to the German publishing group Bastei Lübbe AG. To do this, it acquires all shares, which until then were 50% held by Altraverse GmbH and 25% each by the founders Lea Heidenreich and Michael Schuster.
The existing team under Heidenreich and Schuster will remain in place and continue to carry out the operational tasks, but will be organizationally integrated into Bastei Lübbe. From February 1, 2026, the publishing group will be responsible for the distribution of papertoons publications.
Bastei Lübbe CEO Soheil Dastyari was enthusiastic about the announcement: The papertoons brand stands for passion and great community proximity – and therefore fits well with Bastei Lübbe’s course. The aim is to further develop the label and give the comic and manga segment additional impetus.
The still young publisher was only founded on August 30, 2022 and already has an extensive portfolio of popular webtoon titles, including “Aria & The Golden Hourglass of Time”, “Estelle – The Morning Star of Ersha”, “How to win my Husband over” and recently also “The Greatest Estate Developer”.
