Switch 2: Nintendo offers secret Zelda content to unlock in Skyrim

The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to surprise, even with titles as old as Skyrim. Fifteen years after its initial release, Bethesda’s cult game still hides secrets… including an unexpected crossover with the universe of The Legend of Zelda. A well-hidden reward awaits the most curious players.

This surprise only concerns the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions of the game. By exploring the menu a little or venturing into the heights, it is possible to get your hands on three emblematic objects of Link, legendary hero of Hyrule: the Champion’s Tunic, the Hylian Shield and the Sword of Legend.

Two methods to unlock Zelda content in Skyrim Switch 2

The easiest way is to use a compatible amiibo. Once in the game, you must go to the inventory and select the spells section. A spell called “amiibo” is available by default. Just equip it, then activate it with the R button.

“A large golden circle will appear on the ground, indicating that your amiibo is ready to be scanned.”

By approaching a Zelda amiibo to the NFC reader of the controller, a chest emerges from the ground. “This chest will contain special items like gold or armor, but it also has a 20% chance of containing loot inspired by The Legend of Zelda series.”

Among these loots are Link’s legendary equipment. And good news: the “amiibo” spell can be used every day in Skyrim, increasing your chances of obtaining these treasures.

Can we recover Link without having an amiibo?

No amiibo? Don’t panic. There is a second method, more difficult but just as effective. You have to climb to the top of the Gorge of the World, at the foot of the famous Dragon Tablet, one of the highest places in the game.

Warning: this climb requires having sufficiently advanced in the main quest, or showing agility to avoid obstacles. “You will need to have progressed enough in the main quest to access the Throat of the World, or use a little acrobatics to get around the mountain and cross High Hrothgar’s magical barrier.”

Once at the top, a well-hidden chest awaits daring explorers. It contains the three objects from the Zelda license. The only limitation: “Note that while you can find multiple copies of the Champion’s Tunic and Hylian Shield, there can only be one Legendary Sword in the world at a time; therefore, it will not appear in the chest if you already have one.”

What Zelda items can you get in Skyrim?

The items available are all taken from The Legend of Zelda series, with attention to detail that will delight fans. There Champion’s Tunicoften worn by Link in Breath of the Wildgives an immediately recognizable style. THE Hylian Shieldit offers exceptional defensive resistance. And of course, the legendary Master SwordOr Sword of Legendappears as a unique, powerful and rare weapon.

Why is this exclusive content only available on Switch?

This collaboration between Nintendo and Bethesda is a nod to hybrid console players. It’s also a way to add a layer of exclusivity to an already cult game, to motivate old fans to dive back into the universe of Skyrim via the Switch 2.

This kind of bonus content, directly linked to Nintendo DNA, gives Skyrim a second wind on console. And for Zelda fans, it’s a little unexpected pleasure to enjoy in a world much darker than that of Hyrule.
