PS5: Tips to Fix Liquid Metal Overheating Issues

Since its launch, the PS5 Slim has adopted a liquid metal cooling system, supposed to advantageously replace classic thermal paste. But this innovation, although effective, can prove delicate in the long term. When the console is used in an upright position, the liquid metal may distribute unevenly or even oxidize, causing the fan to overheat, slow down, or malfunction.

This phenomenon is starting to worry some users, especially as Christmas approaches, a period when consoles are running at full speed. Fortunately, iFixit offers a simple solution to implement at home.

Signs that should alert you

Before disassembling your PS5 Slim, a few symptoms may indicate that the liquid metal is no longer fulfilling its role correctly:

  • The console becomes abnormally hot even when idle
  • Performance suddenly drops (frequency slowed)
  • The fan is running at full speed for no apparent reason
  • Unexpected shutdowns or system errors occur frequently

If you notice these problems, cleaning and reapplying the liquid metal may be enough to give your machine a new lease of life.

Your PS5 Slim is now ready to go for several years.
