If we still put the information with a grain of salt while waiting for a slightly more formal announcement from Dambuster Studios, Dead Island 3 would be well under development. The name of the game is explicitly mentioned in this document (page 4), where it is stated that production of certain details has begun, even if the studio is still in the early stages of development and would aim for a release during the first half of 2028 :
“ After the release of Dead Island 2 Ultimate Edition in October 2024, Dambuster Studios’ attention has mainly been on Dead Island 3. All the developers are assigned to this project, and once the Luna and Mac versions of Dead Island 2 are completed, the Dambuster QA team will also join Dead Island 3. Parts of the game are now in the early stages of production, with features, characters, world, and story moving forward at their own pace. »
If this were to be verified, no surprise here since Dead Island 2 was a hit and that a third canonical episode is the logical continuation of things. And at least, this third episode should not take as long as the second.
