The veil is finally lifted on Phantom Blade Zero, the new action-RPG game from S-Game. Revealed with great fanfare during the Game Awards 2025, the title will be officially released on September 9, 2026exclusively on PS5 and PC. But a clarification at the end of the trailer caught the attention of fans: the game will be exclusive to Sony console for at least 12 months.
At the very end of the trailer revealed during the ceremony, a message appears in capital letters: “Also available on PC. Not available on other consoles until at least 12 months after the release date. Vertical support sold separately. Design and specifications subject to change.” A formulation reminiscent of that used for the remake of Silent Hill 2, also launched primarily on PS5 before joining Xbox a year later.
An exclusivity that reinforces the PS5 strategy
The announcement is not trivial. By securing Phantom Blade Zero for an entire year, Sony continues to strengthen the exclusive PS5 catalogas the console fights to maintain its competitive advantage against the Xbox Series X/S. This strategy not only attracts fans of demanding action games, but also creates an effect of expectation on other platforms.
Studios are increasing these temporary agreements, offering a privileged window to certain manufacturers to capture the attention of players. A tactic already proven with titles like Final Fantasy XVI or Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
A quest under pressure: 66 days to survive
In Phantom Blade Zero, the player embodies Drunkan assassin member of the mysterious organization “The Order”wrongly accused of the murder of his patriarch. Seriously injured during his escape, he is narrowly treated by a healer, but the treatment will only last 66 days. A race against time then begins, pushing Soul to face formidable enemies and trace the thread of a plot that goes beyond his own fate.
The dark universe, between oriental fantasy and gothic atmosphere, is in line with games like Nioh or Sekiro, with nervous combat and stylized staging.
Xbox and other consoles: not before the end of 2027?
Even if the S-Game studio has not yet specified which platforms the game will then be ported to, everything indicates that Xbox players won’t see the title until late 2027. The example of the Silent Hill 2 remake, which remained exclusive to the PS5 and PC for a year, gives a clear idea of the probable timetable.
In the meantime, Phantom Blade Zero promises to be an unmissable future for PS5 owners, with its sharp atmosphere, its tense storyline and its exclusivity which will be talked about for many months to come.
