Pokémon Legends ZA changes dimension with the Mega Dimension DLC and its 2.0.0 update

December 10, 2025 marks a turning point for Pokémon Legends: ZA. With update 2.0.0 and the arrival of the Mega Dimension DLC, Nintendo and Game Freak are launching a salvo of exciting new features for fans. This additional content not only offers a new scripted plot, but also a redesigned Mega Evolution mechanic, at the heart of an alternative universe centered on Illumis and the legendary Pokémon Hoopa.

Available on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, this paid DLC is aimed at players who have already completed the base game. For others, you will still have to progress before being able to dive into this parallel adventure. The wait is worth it: Mega Dimension shakes up the benchmarks of the ninth generation.

A new narrative campaign in a hyperspace Illumis

The DLC story places the player in a distorted and supernatural version of Illumis, accompanied by a new character: a pastry chef linked to Hoopa. In this strange environment, narrative progression allows you to climb beyond level 100 – a first in the Pokémon franchise.

This major development changes the training mechanics and promises much more strategic clashes. The atmosphere, too, is jarring: visually marked by surrealism, this revisited Illumis recalls Game Freak’s most ambitious experiments, like Ultra Space or Le Monde Distortion.

More than a dozen new Mega Evolutions

This is the real star of the DLC: the new Mega Evolutions. Although Nintendo has chosen not to reveal everything at once, players discover as they explore a gallery of new, sometimes spectacular shapes. Dataminers were quick to publish the visuals of these transformations, but Game Freak encourages you to discover them naturally, in-game.

Among the first official reveals are popular Pokémon from the eighth and ninth generations, now capable of mega-evolving. This return of Mega-Evolutions marks a break with the mechanics of Dynamax or Crystallization, and brings up to date a functionality very appreciated by veterans.

A bridge to the 10th generation of Pokémon?

If Mega Dimension considerably enriches Pokémon Legends: ZA, it also seems to mark the end of a cycle. This DLC is probably the last major addition of the ninth generation, according to several corroborating sources. A tenth generation could emerge as early as 2026, a year which coincides with the thirtieth anniversary of the franchise.

At the same time, the mysterious Pokémon spin-off Pokopia fuels curiosity. Recently seen in a trailer, it presents strange creatures like Peakychu (a pale Pikachu) or Mosslax (a plant Snorlax). Alternative personalities or regional forms? Nothing is confirmed, but speculation is rife.

One thing is certain: Mega Dimension doesn’t just add content. It redefines expectations around Pokémon Legends and reconciles, perhaps, the most critical fans with the series.
