Bethesda announced, without much fanfare, the launch of Skyrim: Anniversary Edition on Nintendo Switch 2. The optimized version is available immediatelyand owners of the game on the first Switch can access it without additional costs. It is therefore a free update, which should delight players who already have it.
The publisher is banking here on a discreet but effective release, without a dedicated event or marketing campaign. A strategy already successfully adopted for Oblivion Remastered earlier this year.
An improved version, compatible with the new features of the Switch 2
Visually, this edition remains faithful to the classic Switch version, but benefits from improved graphics and performance adjusted for the new console. The trailer does not promise a revolution, but it confirms the essential: the port is fluid and neat.
Another notable point: the Switch 2 version is compatible with mouse commandsa feature that brings the experience closer to that of a PC player, depending on the options enabled by Nintendo.
The content is also enriched thanks to Creation Clubwhich brings several additional cosmetic items, some of which exclusive to the Nintendo console.
No mod support on this version
If some hoped to benefit from mods on Switch 2as is the case on PlayStation or Xbox, the answer is clear: no support for console mods is planned for Nintendo platforms in the near future.
Bethesda did not provide further explanation, but the decision is consistent with Nintendo’s technical restrictions and policies on unverified community content. Players will therefore have to make do with official content and the Creation Club.
Free portage, but not without limits
Skyrim: Anniversary Edition on Switch 2 therefore allows you to (re)discover the universe of Skyrim in a version adapted to the capabilities of the new console. It includes the official extensions (Dragonborn, Hearthfire, Dawnguard), additional content, better fluidity… but still strictly supervised.
Players who were hoping for a real revival or a surprise DLC to accompany the release of The Elder Scrolls 6 will still have to wait. On the other hand, those who have never played Skyrim on Switch can find it here a complete, accessible and faithful version.
