Super Mario: Jack Black releases a date for the third film and it’s already raising expectations

In the middle of the promotion of The Super Mario Galaxy Moviereleased in France on April 1, 2026, Jack Black slipped a sentence that is already panicking fans of Super Mario. The interpreter of Bowser evokes a “third Super Mario film” and pronounces a precise year: 2029. Enough to instantly restart bets on the continuation of the saga at the cinema.

It all plays out in a video interview for the Mexican cinema chain Cinemex, where Jack Black improvises a new Bowser song. At the end, he blurts out: “Don’t be surprised if you hear it next time, in 2029.” Freewheeling joke or real spoiler in disguise? The question is already dividing gaming communities.

Jack Black teases the third Super Mario film for 2029: blunder or real signal?

In the sequence, Jack Blackalso singer of Tenacious D, clearly talks about a future use of this song in “the third Super Mario movie”. The tone is relaxed, but the year 2029 is too specific to go unnoticed. For now, neither Nintendo neither Illumination have not confirmed the existence of a Super Mario Movie 3.

We know that the actors do not decide the schedule, but Jack Black remains one of the pillars of the animated franchise. He plays Mario’s number one enemy and has obviously heard about the planned sequels. His little sentence therefore looks more like an informed wink than a total improvisation.

Why 2029 fits perfectly into Nintendo’s cinema calendar

The context works in favor of this theory. In 2023, The Super Mario Bros. movie grossed more than $1.36 billion at the worldwide box office, or around 1.25 billion euros. A jackpot which strengthened Shigeru Miyamoto, Shuntaro Furukawa And Illumination with the idea, recalled by Notebookcheck, of imposing a “consistent cadence” of Nintendo films.

Three years later, on April 1, 2026, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie logically arrives in theaters. If we extend this rhythm by three years between each main opus, we automatically fall on 2029 for a possible third Super Mario film. In the meantime, a live action film The Legend of Zelda is already dated May 7, 2027, and rumors of a spin-off Donkey Kong Or Star Fox in 2028 let us imagine one big Nintendo film per year until 2029.

The third Super Mario film in 2029: what the end of Galaxy suggests

The content of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie goes in the same direction. The second post-credits scene introduces Daisy as “new challenger”, while BowserBowser Jr., Fox McCloud and Yoshi dubbed by Donald Glover remain in place, as if waiting for a third act. Nothing is official yet, but if Galaxy confirms the success of the first film, it’s hard to imagine Nintendo not launching a new part in 2029 capable of bringing the license even closer to a real film Super Smash Bros..
