Warhorse Studios (Kingdom Come Deliverance) reportedly fired one of its translators in favor of AI

The translation sector in danger

To protect himself, the ex-employee of Warhorse Studios testifies under a pseudonym here, but his identity was verified by Reddit moderators (platform on which he posted his testimony) in order to verify part of his statements. The man we will therefore call Max H. would have worked as a Czech-English translator within the studio for more than three years, and would have mainly worked on Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and its DLCs.

On March 27, he was allegedly fired without notice, the studio justifying its need to save money (while its latest game is a hit) by removing its position which was made “ obsolete » because of AI :

This was a shock to me, because although the issue of using AI for translation had often been discussed in the past, something I have always been vehemently opposed to, I had never considered that it could cost me my job. Sure, I had thought about it sometimes, but I had naively believed that my work at Warhorse Studios was valued enough that I wouldn’t be in danger. »

He continues by indicating that AI impacts many professions within the industry. The field of translation and localization is in fact one of the sectors most in danger following the democratization of AI, even if the latter is still too imperfect to reproduce the same level as good translators. There is every reason to believe that testimonies of this type will multiply in the months to come.
