GTA 6 PC release date is VERY bad news for gamers

The anticipation around Grand Theft Auto VI continues to grow. After years of rumors and speculation, the next installment of Rockstar Games’ popular franchise is finally getting closer to its release.

The game is currently expected for November 2026 on consoles. But for a significant part of the community, the enthusiasm is accompanied by some frustration. PC players may indeed have to wait much longer before being able to experience the game.

GTA 6 should be released on consoles first

As with several major games from Rockstar Games, the release of GTA 6 should be prioritized on consoles. The version scheduled for November 2026 mainly concerns the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Millions of players are expected at launch to experience the game’s main story. The multiplayer mode is also expected to attract a huge community shortly after release. However, this strategy leaves out players who only use a PC to play. For them, the release of the game could come much later.

Previous Rockstar games give a clue

To understand this possible delay, just look at Rockstar’s previous launches. Grand Theft Auto V was released on consoles in September 2013, while the PC version only arrived in April 2015. The gap between the two versions therefore reached around 19 months.

A similar scenario happened with Red Dead Redemption 2. The game was released on consoles in 2018, before coming to PC about a year later. If Rockstar applies a comparable strategy for GTA 6, the PC version could therefore arrive well after the initial release on consoles.

A possible PC release towards the end of 2027

Based on these previous examples, some observers estimate that the PC version may not arrive before the end of 2027. Such a delay would obviously be difficult to accept for players who have been waiting for this new episode for more than a decade. However, this strategy often allows Rockstar to focus on optimizing the console versions first. Adapting such a complex game to PC also requires more work. Developers must ensure that the game runs smoothly on a wide variety of hardware configurations.

Specific challenges of the PC version

The PC version also presents additional challenges for studios. Developers must manage a wide range of configurations, which can make optimization difficult. Issues related to cheating or hacking in multiplayer modes are also a significant risk on this platform. Rockstar often prefers to resolve these issues before releasing the PC version of its games.

For PC players, the only solution to play from the release could therefore be to go through a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S console. In the meantime, fans will have to be content with the trailers and information gradually revealed by Rockstar Games while waiting for the official arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI.
