New “Evangelion” short film reaches millions of viewers on YouTube

A few days ago, the new anime short film for the “Neon Genesis Evangelion” franchise was made available on YouTube – and generated several million views within the first 24 hours. We summarize.

Great interest

The almost 15-minute “Evangelion” short film, which focuses on the popular character Asuka and premiered during the final event for the 30th series anniversary on February 23, 2026, has been available for free on Studio khara’s official YouTube account since last Sunday after a leak that was partly self-inflicted – and, as expected, interest is very high.

After the video had already received over 2.7 million views in the first 24 hours, it already had more than 4.5 million views at the time the article was published. In addition, around 17,000 comments were written.

It should be mentioned that the short film was only uploaded with Japanese voice acting and without any subtitles. A subtitled version could probably trigger a similarly big rush again. However, corresponding plans have not yet been announced.

The previous “Neon Genesis Evangelion” series is available on Netflix in this country, while Prime Video offers the four-part “Rebuild of Evangelion” film series on demand. As part of the 30th anniversary celebrations, a new anime series based on the franchise was also announced and is already in the works.
