Pokémon Pokopia exceeds 2.2 million sales in 4 days

One million copies sold in Japan alone

In an official statement, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo announce that the game has sold more than 2.2 million copies worldwide in just four days. Sales include physical versions (Game Key Card) as well as digital versions. As a reminder, the title has been available since March 5, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2. Of these 2.2 million units sold, 1 million comes from the Japanese marketwhich confirms a particularly solid launch in its home territory.

This performance also marks an important step for the Switch 2 which can now count on a new juggernaut in its game library of exclusives, alongside Donkey Kong Bananza And Kirby Air Riders (Mario Kart World is a special case since it was available as a bundle when the console was launched).

If we take Nintendo’s official figures (as of December 31, 2025), Pokémon Pokopia is currently the 4th best-selling game on Switch 2 :

  1. Mario Kart World — 14.03 million
  2. Donkey Kong Bananza — 4.25 million
  3. Pokémon Legends: ZA – Switch Edition 2 — 3.89 million
  4. Pokémon Pokopia — 2.2 million
  5. Kirby Air Riders — 1.76 million

Given the stock shortages observed everywhere, the figure could probably have been even higher. It should also be noted that the reluctance of some players towards the Game Key Card system (game card requiring downloading) ultimately did not slow down the success of the game.

Can Pokémon Pokopia become the best-selling Pokémon spin-off?

Even though the Pokémon franchise obviously remains one of the most powerful brands in the industry, this is a spin-off exploring a completely different genre. Moreover, Pokémon Pokopia falls into this category of games that sell well over time. This gives it a strong chance of becoming the best-selling spin-off of the license in the years to come.

For comparison, here are the five best-selling Pokémon spin-offs (source: VGChartz), excluding special cases like “Let’s Go” or “Legends”:

  1. Pokémon Stadium — 5.46 million
  2. Pokémon Pinball — 5.31 million
  3. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Shadow and Explorers of Time — 4.88 million
  4. Pokémon Trading Card Game — 3.72 million
  5. Pokémon Snap — 3.63 million

The success of the game is in any case well deserved and we hope that it will encourage Nintendo and The Pokémon Company to continue to innovate by offering original experiences of this type.
