Bad news: GTA 6 will be unplayable for millions of players at launch

The wait around Grand Theft Auto VI continues to rise as the release date approaches. After several postponements, the new title from Rockstar Games should finally arrive in November 2026. As with GTA V, the game should first focus on an ambitious single-player campaign before offering a complete multiplayer experience.

But this future online mode may not be accessible to everyone. New regulations on the Internet and adult content could prevent some players from easily accessing it.

Laws that require age verification

Several countries have recently adopted new measures aimed at protecting minors on the Internet. These laws now impose a strict age verification to access certain online content intended for adults. Multiplayer video games rated 18+ could be affected by these new rules.

In some cases, players will be required to confirm their age via official identification methods. These procedures could include identity documents or biometric technologies. If these rules are applied to gaming platforms, they could affect access to GTA VI’s multiplayer mode.

Australia and the United Kingdom already affected

According to several reports in the specialist press, Australia has already introduced laws requiring age verification for certain online services. Multiplayer games intended for an adult audience could therefore be affected by these new rules.

In this context, access to GTA Online – or its future equivalent in GTA VI – could require identity confirmation. The United Kingdom has also started implementing similar regulations. These measures are part of a broader set of laws aimed at regulating digital content and online platforms.

Concerns about data protection

These new obligations also raise concerns among some players. One of the main concerns is the use of sensitive personal data. Some verification methods could indeed include facial recognition or other forms of biometrics. For part of the community, these requirements could represent a difficult compromise between security and privacy. Some players may therefore choose not to access online mode rather than sharing this information.

An expected success despite everything

Despite these potential restrictions, GTA VI should remain one of the most important games of the decade. The title is being awaited with immense impatience by fans, and the first images revealed by Rockstar Games have already aroused massive enthusiasm.

Even if some regions impose additional requirements to access multiplayer, the game’s single-player campaign will remain accessible. And for many players, the main story alone could already justify the purchase of the game. One thing is certain: GTA VI will continue to be talked about until its release, and probably well beyond.
