PlayStation players sometimes tend to forget: the PlayStation Store regularly offers free demos, accessible to all PS5 users, even without a PlayStation Plus subscription. This week, two new experiences are available: a strategic tower defense and a narrative adventure in visual novel format. Two radically different styles, but the same promise: try it for free before deciding to buy.
Starfall Defenders: a dynamic and strategic tower defense
The first game highlighted is Starfall Defenders, developed by EntwicklerX. This title takes the classic bases of tower defense while adding a more active dimension. Players must defend their positions against waves of enemies, but can also intervene directly on the battlefield.
Among the gameplay features:
- Placement of mines and blocking walls
- Strategic electric fields
- Manual control of turret direction and target
The synopsis states:
“This player-controlled action is a unique feature in a defense game, allowing players to directly strike their enemies. »
Eight types of turrets are available: cannon, laser, flamethrower, EMP, rocket, DCA, artillery, and many others. Each turret can have its damage, rate of fire and range improved. The demo already has an average four-star rating on the PlayStation Store, a solid start for an indie title.
Virtual Ties Isekaijoucho Träumerei: a story above all
If you prefer narrative experiences, Virtual Ties Isekaijoucho Träumerei might appeal more to you. This visual novel features Yu Kirishima, returning to his native island, reuniting with his childhood friend Sekai Minase. The latter, who once dreamed of becoming an idol, seems to have lost all motivation. The synopsis explains:
“Wishing to see her smile again, Yu makes her a proposition: to debut as a virtual idol under the name “Isekaijoucho”, based on an illustration he drew himself. » The game has already won over some players: 68% of evaluations give it the maximum rating of five stars. This title is clearly aimed at fans of touching stories and character-centered progression.
Other free demos to watch out for on PS5
These two demos are just the tip of the iceberg.
The PlayStation Store also hosts:
- Under The Island, a charming pixel art RPG
- Mina the Hollower, in line with demanding 2D action games
- Planet of Lana II, sequel to an adventure with an aesthetic inspired by Studios Ghibli
The demos section of the Store is updated regularly, but often remains underestimated by players. For those who want to discover games before their official release, this is an ideal opportunity.
An excellent opportunity to test without commitment
In a context where the price of games is regularly increasing, being able to try several hours of content for free becomes a real luxury. These two new PS5 demos show that Sony continues to encourage independent discovery, even without a premium subscription. If you’re looking for a new game to try this weekend, head to the PlayStation Store.
