Pokémon GO adds Mega Dracolossus and a new, harder raid this weekend, the rules to know

The GO Tour: Kalos has barely started in person when Pokémon GO has already released a major surprise: Mega Dracolossus joins the list of Super Mega Raids alongside Mega Emptiflor and Mega Malamar. The physical events in Los Angeles and Tainan take place February 20-22, 2026, with a global launch planned later, during GO Tour: Kalos – Global.

Behind this third Mega-boss, the challenge is above all mechanical: Niantic pushes a new level of difficulty, designed to force cooperation, with shields to break in the middle of combat and a new energy system to collect.

Mega Dracolossus arrives in Pokémon GO, and it invites itself into Super Mega Raids

The announcement came during the first day of GO Tour: Kalos in person: Mega Dracolossus will make its debut in Pokémon GO during the event, in Super Mega Raids. It joins two already announced Mega Evolutions, Mega Emptiflor and Mega Malamar, all linked to Pokémon Legends: ZA.

For the on-site calendar, the communicated program is simple: Mega-Dracolossus appears on both days. On Saturday February 21, 2026, it is offered with Méga-Emptiflor, then on Sunday February 22, 2026 with Méga-Malamar. The article also indicates that the overall schedule should follow a similar logic for February 28, 2026 and March 1, 2026.

Super Mega Raids, this new level of difficulty that changes the way of raiding

Super Mega Raids do not replace classic Mega-Raids, they add a layer above. The objective is clear: to increase the coordination requirement. In the explanation published around the event, these raids require at least eight trainers to face bosses described as “exceptionally powerful mega-evolved Pokémon.”

The most visible difference in combat comes from the shields. The boss can raise a ward that reduces damage, and the trainers must bring it down together. Important point: each trainer can only break one shield, which pushes the entire lobby to participate at the right time, instead of having two players carry the raid.

Link Charge and Link Holder, the new mandatory access to enter Super Mega Raid

To access these raids, Niantic is also introducing a new element: the Link Charge. The official page explains that Link Charges are a new source of energy, stored in a Link Holder, a key item that automatically appears in the bag upon first collection.

On the obtaining side, Niantic highlights several ways: weekly challenges, opening gifts, and checking in to certain meetups via Campfire. During the GO Tour: Kalos – Global, one check-in per day via Campfire on February 28 and March 1, 2026 allows you to recover some, with also earnings planned via the GO Pass linked to the event.

The same source also specifies that Link Charges can be purchased via the in-game store or the Pokémon GO web store, which gives an entry point to players who want to earn free winnings without waiting.

Super Max, the new level which gives a reason to farm these new raids

These Super Mega Raids aren’t just about seeing new bosses. They are part of a broader Mega Evolution update which introduces a new level: Super Max. Niantic explains that the progression of Mega Evolution levels no longer stops at known levels, and that it becomes possible to go up to Super Max, with increased bonuses.

In the extract linked to GO Tour: Kalos, the idea put forward is direct: earn rewards, capture the boss, and obtain a lot of Mega energy to push these Mega Evolutions towards this new ceiling. This is what makes the arrival of Mega Dracolossus immediately interesting, because the launch takes place at the same time as the new system, with a very well-defined event window between the face-to-face phase and the global one.
