A timing that inevitably raises questions
If, in its press release, Ubisoft indicates that the closure of its studio in Halifax is motivated by the desire to “ streamline operations, improve efficiency and reduce costs »impossible not to make the link (direct or not) with another piece of news that has concerned the studio in recent days: the unionization of 61 employees of this Halifax studio last monthwhich was the first North American union for Ubisoft.
Seeing Ubisoft close this studio only a few days after this announcement is necessarily suspicious. But the publisher will obviously be careful not to say that the union could be one of the reasons behind this decision, especially since Halifax was undoubtedly one of the teams most subject to budget cuts, just like RedLynx. All the same, the timing is questionable. A story which nevertheless recalls (from a distance) that of the Rockstar employees fired recently, while they were preparing to unionize. So these are now 71 positions which are eliminated71 more among a long list within Ubisoft over the last two years.
