A return to basics… in complete discretion. Without thunderous announcement, Crystal Dynamics has just relaunched Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. A timely “shadow drop” before season 2 of the Netflix series The Legend of Lara Croftexpected in December.
Originally released in 2013, this reboot marked a major turning point in the saga with Lara Croft more human, vulnerable and determined than ever. It is now possible to relive this founding adventure, anywhere, in an optimized portable version.
A surprise release, but not without content
It was via a sober press release that the studio made the news official: “Today, we are delighted to announce our partnership with Aspyr to bring Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on Nintendo consoles.”
The game, which introduced the trilogy Survivorbenefits here from all the additions released at the time. Crystal Dynamics describes it as “a viscerally intense, award-winning action-adventure game that follows Lara Croft’s emotional journey from inexperienced young woman to battle-hardened survivor.”
In this Switch version, players can explore the island of Yamatai in both nomadic and docked mode, with all that this implies in terms of comfort and freedom of play: “Now you can relive this landmark adventure wherever you are. Participate in intense battles, customize Lara’s weapons and equipment and overcome unforgiving environments, whether you play on your TV or explore Yamatai on the go.”
A complete offer and a limited reduction
In addition to the base game, this edition includes all the downloadable content released at the time: eight multiplayer maps, four additional characters, six alternate outfits for Lara, as well as an eight-player multiplayer mode.
Added to this are several valuable digital bonuses for fans: the comic Tomb Raider: The Beginning published by Dark Horse, a mini artbook entitled The Art of Survivaland the video Final Hours of Tomb Raiderbehind the scenes of game development.
