Another reality was possible
Games Matrixthere have been some, good ones and bad ones, but the history of the saga in the video game industry could have been very different if Hideo Kojima had looked into an adaptation. In any case, this is what the Wachowskis sisters wanted, if we are to believe an interview with Christopher Bergstresser, who served at Konami as vice-president of licensing, which appeared in NextGen magazine in 1999 and which was found by Time Extension.
We then read that the Wachowskis directly expressed interest in the Japanese designereven organizing a meeting at Konami’s premises. However, even if the duo in charge of the Matrix saga was very interested, Kazumi Kitaue, one of Konami’s executives, would have simply said no to the project :
“ The Wachowskis were big fans of Kojima. Kazumi Kitaue, Kojima, Aki Saito (who still works with Kojima) and I were at Konami headquarters, and we received a call from the Wachowskis, who wanted to meet Kojima. What was done! They came in with their concept artist and said to Kojima: “We really want you to do the Matrix game. Can you do that?” Aki translated this into Japanese for Mr. Kitaue, and Kitaue looked at them and said clearly: “No.” We were still able to enjoy the Japanese premiere of Matrix and the afterparty. »
However, according to the echoes reported by Time Extension, not all of Konami would have rejected this Matrix project altogether, and Kojima would have shown great interest in it, to the point of expressing a “ huge disappointment » when the discussions were buried. The rest, we know it, the Wachowskis turned to other studios like Shiny Entertainment to The Matrix. Who knows what a game based on this license could have produced with Kojima at the helm.
