A small drop in speed which still needs to be confirmed
And the results of the first Christmas of the Switch 2 are not through the roof, or at least, they do not reflect the excellent launch of the machine. To arrive at this conclusion, The Game Business analyzed the performance of the console on the American market and in certain European countries, including France. Across the Atlantic, the console would have recorded 35% fewer sales than the first Switch during its first Christmaseven if these figures have yet to be confirmed by Circana (which has only published its results for the month of November). Which is understandable given that the impact of the Switch 1 at the time was not at all the same.
The result is more nuanced in the United Kingdom, where the Switch 2 would only be down 16% over the November-December period compared to the first Switch of the name. In its first year, Nintendo’s new console nevertheless remains superior to its predecessor with 6% higher sales in this market.
The Game Business also lingers on the results of the machine in France, and this is apparently where the problem lies. Sales of the Switch 2 would be 30% lower than those of the first Switch in its first year, so much so that the British market was more important than the French market in 2025 for the Switch 2, something quite rare. In Japan, the decline is less significantbut it is still present (-5.5%) in recent months, while the overall year in this territory is more encouraging (+11%). The economic situation is also not the same as in 2017, which could also explain a lot of things.
We will have to wait until the end of the fiscal year and/or the full year of the machine to draw real conclusions, but The Game Business notes here that most European markets saw a drop in sales of the console during the holiday period, which is nevertheless very buoyant.
