The PS6 will not arrive before 2028, Sony changes strategy and bets everything on the PS5

Sony won’t release the PlayStation 6 right away, and that’s probably a great decision. While the market was wondering about a release as early as 2027, several analysts now believe that the PS6 will not see the light of day before 2028, or even later. Far from being a tragedy, this strategic choice could benefit the entire PlayStation ecosystem, players included.

An extended cycle for the PS5, so what?

The PlayStation 5 may be approaching its six-year mark, but it has not said its last word. According to the MST Financial report relayed by TweakTown, Sony wants to extend the life cycle of its current console. Sales remain strong, despite recent price increases. Internally and from third-party publishers, games continue to flow in, and demand remains strong.

Rather than rushing the arrival of a PS6, Sony is choosing to stabilize its offer, which could also cushion the pressure on prices, while electronic components are increasingly captured by the artificial intelligence industry.

Why delaying the PS6 is a good thing

The video game industry is changing, but not as quickly as before. The PS4 had lived 7 years before the arrival of the PS5. But today, major technical innovations are becoming rarer and more expensive. A new technological leap must be justified, especially if developers continue to release their games for several generations at a time.

Rather than launching a console with simple graphic improvements, Sony had better wait for a real technological breakthrough. For players, it is also an opportunity to optimize their PS5 investment, especially at a time when consoles are more expensive than ever.

A console always at the top

Despite the appearance of a PS5 Pro on the horizon, the standard version remains powerful, fluid and more than sufficient to run the best games, including the highly anticipated GTA 6. Sony seems to have understood: there is no point in rushing an already saturated market.

The right time for a PS6? When technology allows it, and the studios are ready to develop exclusives tailored for the new generation.
