A new psychological horror game is making waves on Steamand fans of silent Hill have an interest in listening. Unhealthy atmosphere, deserted corridors, twisted mind rather than full-on gore: all the boxes of old school survival horror are ticked.
His name is Unhostan indie project signed Lumrak Games. The studio locks the player in an abandoned hospital infested with paranormal phenomena, all with a playable demo already available for free on PC. We take stock of this Unhost free Steam which begins to intrigue the horror scene.

In Unhostyou play a paranormal detective sent to a deserted hospital to elucidate strange events. Rather than piling up monsters, the game focuses on psychological horror silent Hill And P.T.with a banal decor that gradually becomes oppressive.
The specialized press already compares the title to a mixture between silent Hill, Phasmophobia And Five Nights at Freddy’s : supernatural investigations, invisible threat, structure in successive nights. Aesthetics adopt a style analog horror 80sthese grainy VHS-style fictions and cathode ray screens, which fit perfectly with the concept of video surveillance.
On Reddit, Lumrak Games explains that it wants to focus on atmosphere and building tension rather than easy jumpscares. So expect more heavy silence, distant noises and odd details than a succession of basic screamers.
How Unhost on Steam freaks you out with cameras, anomalies and robots?
The game loop is based on seven nights to survive in the hospital. Installed in a control room, you monitor security cameras to spot anomalies: displaced objects, changing lights, furtive silhouettes, strange sounds. Each night randomly generates these events, which avoids simple memorization.
When something goes wrong, you deploy a remote-controlled robot to approach the area, document the phenomenon and collect evidence. This data feeds psychological tests, a reputation gauge and unlocks improvements for your cameras and your machine. The choices made lead to several possible endingsin the spirit of the twisted scenarios of silent Hill.
Between two night guards, the game switches into daytime segments and dream sequences. During the day, you analyze audio recordings and photos, try to communicate with the spirits and reconstruct the hospital’s past. At night, certain playable nightmares immerse you in other locations and puzzles, reinforcing the narrative dimension of the project.
Free Unhost on Steam: playable demo, PC config and full release in 2026
The demo UNHOST Demo was put online on Steam on April 9, 2026. It can be downloaded like any title: search Unhost in the store, open the demo page then click on “Download demo”. This free segment provides an overview of the first night and observation mechanics.
On the technical side, the demo remains reasonable: Windows 10 64 bits, i5-4690 or Ryzen 3 1200 type processor, 8 GB of RAM, GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 caliber graphics card and around 5 GB of disk space. Clearly, a recent mid-range configuration is enough to enjoy the experience.
The complete game Unhost is planned on Steam for the third quarter 2026only on PC for now. The sheet announces interface and subtitles in French, with English voices, while the demo remains listed in English. Only the demo is free, the final game will be paid for, but you can already add it to your wish list to follow its development.
