The Halloween season is in full swing and Steam has a big surprise for thrill-seekers: Kronos: The New Dawnthe latest creation from Bloober Team, is available for free as a playable demo. Inspired by both Resident Evil and Dead Space, this title promises a suffocating atmosphere, demanding survival mechanics and a chilling atmosphere.
Available now on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, this trial version allows you to immerse yourself in the dark universe of this horror game without spending a cent. Perfect for scaring yourself while waiting for Halloween.
A successful blend of classic horror and science fiction
Cronos: The New Dawn is one of the greatest survival horrors. With its narrow corridors, unpredictable enemies and constant tension, the game immediately reminds Dead Space for the oppressive spatial atmosphere, and Resident Evil 4 for its approach to third-person shooting, its resource management mechanics and its breathtaking pace.
Signed Bloober Team, already known for Layers of Fear and the remake of Silent Hill 2the studio offers itself here a particularly careful new intellectual property. The universe of Cronos is cold, threatening, and the narration adopts a minimalist approach that leaves plenty of room for interpretation and unease. Fans of the genre will find all the sensations they are looking for, particularly during this period conducive to adrenaline-pumping games.
A free demo to test a game that doesn’t give away
From the first minutes, Cronos: The New Dawn imposes a heavy pace and never takes the player by the hand. This is what the author of the original review of the game points out: “Cronos: The New Dawn is not a walk in the park, and it won’t hold your hand, and that’s exactly how survival horror games should be.”
With this free demo, Bloober Team allows everyone to discover the experience without commitment, but with certain requirements. Combat, exploration, psychological tension… the cocktail works wonderfully. And for many, this game marks a turning point in the studio’s evolution: “It’s Bloober Team’s best original intellectual property to date, and if it’s a harbinger of what’s to come, besides the upcoming Silent Hill remake, I can’t wait to see what terrifying new delights the studio has in store for us.”
Accessible only on PC at the moment, the demo is available now on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The full version is also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S for those who want to extend the experience after Halloween.
